Report: Retailers added 44,000 new jobs in August

Retailers added 44,000 jobs across the board in August, according to the Labor Department, as back-to-school shopping hit its full stride. Apparel and accessories stores saw the biggest jump with 13,700 new positions, while general merchandise stores added 9,400 jobs. “We are expecting further signs of strengthening in the second half of the year. Retailers are making headway but challenges remain. Slow wage growth and downward jobs revisions continue to indicate a reluctant economy,” said NRF Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz. Full Story.
