Retailers create classes to help workers gain skills and credits

Walmart, Starbucks and Jiffy Lube are among the growing number of businesses that are creating classes geared toward the skills their workers need to do their current jobs and advance in their careers, and they’re increasingly crafting curricula that qualifies for college credits. “What companies like is just-in-time learning that gives somebody a skill they need at the time they need it,” says Pepperdine University business professor Mark Allen.
