Sales tax fairness legislation moves one step closer to passage

The Senate voted 74-20 last night to begin debate on the Marketplace Fairness Act, marking the first binding vote involving an actual sales tax fairness bill in a dozen years. This new action builds on recent momentum after last month’s test vote, but with the Senate in recess next week and possibly wrapping up early this week, retailers supporting the bill have hours — not days — to contact their senators urging passage.
